Continuing the environmental considerations explained in Bivouac: Shelter for the Journey, this project is a proposed device for living in New York City in the year 2140, as outlined in the science fiction novel by Kim Stanley. In a world where global warming has led to melting ice caps and rising sea levels, the island of Manhattan continues to shrink as the population has only inversely increased. The effect is an environment where people live on top of one another, densely packed into small spaces. This device aims to act as an interface that bridges body and world. It functions as a physical interruption between the wearer’s body and their environment, protecting them where they may be most vulnerable.
